We the techies

In the confines of cubicles
By artificial light,

Sipping coffee from the machines
day and night.

Speaking on phones, in meetings we sit.
Staring the monitor, the keyboard(s) we hit.

Far away from loved ones whom
for days we do not meet.
Remembering them, working, on our seat.

This is life for us,
Working away from homes and loved ones in places afar.

What a life, techies we are.
What a life, techies we are, techies we are.

But wait a min... think for a while...
isn't it true?

Is it really worth?

I feel whatever (s)he has written is not enough to describe about techies.

Would you like to add anything here?

I don't think being a techie is such a bad thing if you have the gift of the gab. You can talk and conjure a lot of crap and still sound honest. And once you become a manager you will stop praying for "our daily bread" and start praying for "our daily global gyan session". I am waiting for the day when I can dish out nonsense like -- Sustainability, Managing Scale, Quality, Timely deliverables, Model(doesn't matter what model you are talking about) and et al.... I think this utopian position is worth all the pains that we go through as SE's. So say cheers to the good times ahead.

Nice read.. however being a Techie is not only about sitting in office and slogging day in n day out.. its like any other professional... wahan log chai(cutting) pe the hain aur yahan hum vending machine ki coffee... its all abput perspective, the glass is half full or half empty... We all crib abt being not satisfied but how many of us really has the driving force to really come out of the comfort zone and venture into the unknown... shayad bahut kam... :):)

@ Dinesh
Well said dude, even I m waiting for that day…

@ bapu
That’s true bapu but dil hai ki manta nahi… ;) Remember the conversation we had in our group mail last week?

@ Swarup
Thnx dude…

@ Anu
Right it’s all about perception. It’s human nature to crib about everything. I understand it and agree with you.
But actually I wanted to bring the dark side of a SE’s life in to the limelight.
Anyway wait for my next post and then will discuss more about it… ;)

@ Priya
Hey no need to feel bad… its all part of the game… (Again manager lingo…)

If you have a passion for your work, then nothing else matters. Else, you'll never be at home anywhere.

@ Chaitra n MON

I agree with you to some extent. Passion and all are fine… it’s all theoretical… achieving it fully is not possible. Most of the time you are happy about what you are but then sometimes there are more downs than ups in life… I think we can discuss it after my next post. Will try to tell you what exactly made me feeling the same… till then njoy.. happy blogging.

Well,
this poem was just intended to convey a message to a dear friend when she saisde, i just cant trust you techies. You people are just bothered about work.
i jsut wanted to tell her that we techies are also human beings.
i never expected this to go all across the world. It was my mistake forwarding it to Friends :) and in pure techie way it gets forwarded.
